In several important art exhibitions in Indonesia lately, there have been concerns about, among others, the symptoms of uniformity in form and style, as well as a certain imbalance between technical skills and artistic ideas. There are quite a number of interesting works that nonetheless still bear the traces of other artists, or seemingly unable to convey significantly different ideas from those already in circulation.

These two main problems are to be responded in this exhibition. Wahyudin, a young curator from Yogyakarta has chosen some names considered the rising stars in the Indonesian fine arts nowadays, to “respond” to the authors’ works taking part in Utan Kayu Literary Biennale 2009. We will explore the length literature would go to give stimulus to the creation of fine arts works, be them literally or impliedly, openly or latent.

The invited artists are Adi Gunawan, Bayu Yuliansyah, Dadang Rukmana, David Armi Putra, Decki Leos Firmansyah, Dona Prawira Arisuta, Endang Lestari, Faisal Habibi, Hayatudin, Hendra Harsono, Ibnu Thalhah, Putut Wahyu Widodo, Rifqi Sukma, Terra Bajraghosa, Wedhar Riyadi, dan Yudi Sulistiya.
